In May 2023, I traveled with my family and boyfriend to Los Cabos, Mexico to attend a wedding. We spent a total of 6 days visiting different resorts, sightseeing, and eating Mexican food. On the 1st day, we ate authentic tacos at El Paisa and checked out the nightlife by going to a bar called Happy Ending.

El Paisa (Dinner)

After we got settled, we went to taqueria El paisa for dinner. We arrived around 8:30pm and the restaurant was crowded. We had to wait 15 minutes for a table. While waiting, we were reviewing the menu outside, so when we sat down we could order immediately.

Once we sat down to eat, we ordered a bunch of tacos. I ordered a pastor taco, which is a taco with pork and pineapple, and an asada vampiro, which is a toasted tortilla topped with melted cheese and choice of meat. My brother ordered a quesadilla de camaron, a pastor taco, and a carne asada taco. My brother was unhappy with his quesadilla de camaron because it was as small as a taco and only came with three pieces of shrimp. For the table, the waitress gave us an assortment of salsas including tomatoes, spicy sauces, guacamole, and a bowl of radish and cucumbers. While waiting for the food, I dipped the cucumbers into the guacamole. For drinks, I ordered Jamaica, made from hibiscus and sugar, and my brother ordered Horchata, made from rice, cinnamon, sugar, and milk. I paid $721 pesos ($45 usd) for approximately 12 tacos and 3 drinks.

Nightlife

After dinner, we went to a bar called Happy Ending, which is known for cheap drinks. The bar offered a special deal of 2 beers and 2 double shots for only $5 usd. The ambiance had a dark red hue with dollar bills hanging from the ceiling. As we explored the venue further, we saw a back room housing a beer pong table, adding an element of excitement to the overall experience. The lively ambiance was enhanced by Spanish music blasting in the background. Happy Ending was a very unique and enjoyable bar.

After an hour, we called it a night and headed home. Ideally, I would’ve preferred to stay out a little bit longer, but because of the time difference, I felt too tired. It was only 10pm in Los Cabos, but it was 1am in Maryland.

My brother and his girlfriend stayed out until 1am. They checked out a few more bars that didn’t have a cover charge. At the end of the night, they bought pastor tacos from a taco stand. 5 tacos for only $70 pesos ($4 usd).
