In May 2023, I traveled with my family and boyfriend to Los Cabos, Mexico to attend a wedding. Yesterday, I boarded a flight from DC to Los Cabos with an overnight layover in Austin, Texas. Today, I flew to Los Cabos International Airport from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Read on to learn about how I navigated customs at the Los Cabos Airport.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport

We arrived at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport two hours early so we could have enough time to buy breakfast before our 10am flight. When we arrived, we were surprised by the long lines at TSA PreCheck and CLEAR at checkpoint 3. A worker told us to go to checkpoint 1, which was on the other side of the airport for a shorter line. I ended up going through Checkpoint 2E, which had no line. It took me less than 5 minutes to get through security. The workers told me that there was a big line just minutes before and that I just missed all the fun.

Once I passed through security, me and my boyfriend looked for a place to eat breakfast. The airport had so many options it was difficult to choose the best place to eat. We ended up choosing Zocalo Cafe because they sold breakfast burrito bowls.

Los Cabos International Airport

We boarded the airplane and landed in Los Cabos International Airport at 11:07am. Once we got off the plane, we went through a customs checkpoint to have our passport stamped. Afterwards, we collected our baggage and joined another queue, initially unsure of its purpose due to its slow pace.

Eventually, we veered left and arrived at the main entrance, where we were astounded by the multitude of people lining up for bag screening. There were two lines to choose from: a lengthy zigzag line and a line that ran along the outside of the former. Despite the outside line looking shorter, we chose the zigzag line. It turned out to be the correct choice because the shorter line moved at a slower pace. When we reached the front, we pushed a red button. If the red button beeped, then we would’ve to put our bags through a metal detector. Luckily that didn’t happen so we were able to go through without scanning our bags. It took us 30 mins to go through the bag screening process. Overall, it took approximately 1 hour to retrieve our luggage and pass through both customs checkpoints.

Upon exiting the airport, we saw a sign for Avis. I told the representative my name, who promptly verified it and directed us to board the shuttle that would transport us to Avis, a 5-minute drive. We Reached Avis at 12:25pm.

Once we were all settled in the car, we embarked on our 45-minute journey to Flora Farms. We had lunch reservations with our relatives at 1pm.
