What to expect from UTV Tours in Los Cabos

In May 2023, I traveled with my family and boyfriend to Los Cabos, Mexico to attend a wedding. We spent a total of 6 days visiting different resorts, sightseeing, and eating Mexican food. On the 5th day, me, my boyfriend, my brother, my brother’s girlfriend, and my mom booked a UTV tour at Cactus Tours in Los Cabos. Read on to learn what to expect from the UTV tour at Cactus Tours.

Pick up

We booked a UTV tour from Cactus tours. The tour guide said he would come at 1pm to pick us up from Malvila’s entrance. At 1pm, I waited by the front gate and after 15 minutes, I saw a shuttle bus that said Cactus Tours. I waved at it, but it drove straight past me. Then my brother called Cactus Tours and informed them that the bus driver passed us. 5 minutes later, the bus driver came back and picked us up.

The seats were comfortable and came with a seat belt. It was approximately a 40 minute drive to arrive at Cactus Tours.

Paying for the Tour

Once we arrived, we went to the sales counter.

We waited in a short line before it was our turn to pay for the UTV Tour. The salesman spoke English and told us what UTV tour we booked. Then, he began asking if we wanted the following:

Upgrade to the premium UTV (ranging from $199-$345 per UTV)
Insurance
Bringing our cell phone ($35 per person) on the tour.

We politely declined all additional charges. In the past, I’ve rode UTV tours and was advised from the tour guides to stay on the track and keep space between each car.

Then, the salesman asked us to pay the park entrance fee in cash ($25 per person). I thought I could pay by credit card and was initially worried that we didn’t have enough cash. Luckily my mom had $80, my boyfriend had $40, and my brother’s girlfriend had $5, so we were able to pay the entrance fee of $125 for five people. Once we paid the entrance fee, we paid for the tour, which came out to be $535 for three UTV’s for five people (three drivers and two passengers).

UTV Tour Experience

Afterwards, I was directed to the lockers to put away our belongings as I did not pay to bring our cell phones on the tour. I waited in the seating area for 15 minutes before a man introduced himself as our tour guide. He took us to get a helmet, which was comfortable and covered my whole head. There was also a clear plastic in front of my face, which protected my eyes.

Then, he showed us our UTVs. I was excited to jump in and get rolling. My boyfriend drove first, while I sat in the passenger seat. I was a bit anxious, so I wanted him to test the car out until I gained enough confidence to drive the UTV. On the drive, I noticed a photographer following us while driving an ATC with one hand.

After an hour of driving, the tour guide directed us to stop and get out of the UTV’s so we can take in the scenery. It was very pretty and I wished I had my phone to take a picture. Though, the photographer was there to take photos for us. He asked us to get in a line and jump. He was trying to capture a scenic jumping photo. The tour guide gave us the option to switch drivers. My mom wasn’t a huge fan of driving, so I ended up taking her UTV and she sat as the passenger. I really enjoyed driving the car on the beach because I could drive as fast as possible, while watching the waves crash. It was a beautiful sight. When I was driving on the dunes, it was a bit rocky and terrifying. But once I got over the hump and landed on a flat surface, I wasn’t scared anymore.

Overall, it was a wonderful tour and I would definitely do it again if I ever came back to Los Cabos. My boyfriend said he loved it because he got to drive really fast on the beach.

After the UTV Tour

By the end, my clothes were very dirty from the sand and dust. When I arrived back at the main site, I stopped by the bar for a free tequila tasting. I sampled a couple of liquors from amaretto liquor to silver tequila.

Afterwards, I walked around the lobby and asked an associate how do I get back to the hotel. The associate told me that I needed to put my name down by the man holding the clipboard. When I told the man our destination, he put our names down and told us that four other groups were ahead of me. He told me the shuttle number that I should look out for and that I could either wait in the lobby or on the couch. The couch had other people sitting in it, so I decided to walk around the lobby.

While waiting for the shuttle, I viewed the photos the photographer took of us. The photos were taken very well, but we weren’t interested in them because you couldn’t really see our faces.

Then, I walked around the lobby and took pictures of the area and posed with a couple of modeled UTVs.
