During my trip in Sparta, Greece, I had the pleasure of visiting a charming coffee shop named The Drop not once, but twice. This delightful spot is nestled on the bustling main street of Sparta’s downtown area, just a leisurely 10-minute stroll from where I was staying. The Drop is famed for its delightful mix of both sweet and savory treats, ranging from aromatic coffees and unique cocktails to fluffy pancakes and an array of delectable desserts. What really sets it apart during the festive season is its enchanting Christmas decor. If you’re in search of a coffee shop with a Christmas twist, The Drop should definitely be on your list. Read on to discover more about my dining experiences at this festive gem.
Dinner at The Drop
When I arrived in the evening, the scene was lively with guests outside sipping drinks and some smoking. Inside, numerous patrons were relishing their desserts. The coffee shop was bustling with a diverse crowd, including adults, children, and teenagers. The seating policy was based on a first-come, first-served basis. Fortunately, we managed to find a cozy spot in the back corner. The seating was quite comfortable, featuring plush seats and cushioned chairs. Soon after we settled in, a waitress quickly approached me and my family, providing menus and water.
After spending a few minutes perusing the menu, the waitress returned to take our order. I ordered a Stranger cocktail (10 euros), Red Velvet Hot Chocolate (4 euros), and Banoffee Drop (4,70 euros).
While waiting for our food, I took pictures of the coffee shop, which was decorated with string lights, ornaments, trees, and nutcrackers. The ambiance was loud from the chatter and acoustic music. However, it wasn’t too loud, so I could talk at a normal volume.
After 10 minutes of waiting, the drinks and the dessert arrived. The Stranger cocktail was incredible, it had a balance of sweet, juicy, and spicy. The Stranger cocktail was made with black rum, lime, coconut, gentleman soda, ginger, and Bergamot spicy bitters. The taste resembled a mango margarita. The Red Velvet Hot Chocolate was creamy and tasted just like a red velvet cake. While the Banoffee Drop was to die for! It had multiple layers, the first layer was a base of chocolate cake, the second layer was filled with caramel pastry cream, and the third layer was topped with chocolate cake. The cake was topped with whipped cream, butterscotch syrup, banana slices, and crumble.
Breakfast at The Drop
The following morning, I rose early at 8am and joined my mom for breakfast at The Drop. The atmosphere in the morning contrasted starkly with the previous evening. The outdoor area, which had been bustling with diners and smokers the night before, was now quiet. Inside, the cafe was only half occupied, making it easy for us to find a table. Within a minute, the waitress arrived, and I placed an order of Greek Coffee (2 euros), Croissant filled with hazelnut praline (3,5 euros), Salty pancakes (6,5 euros), and French toast (6 euros).
After a few minutes, the Greek Coffee arrived. Then, I waited another 20 minutes for the rest of the food. The portion sizes were big and filled us up! The Croissant had the perfect amount of hazelnut praline inside and the bread was flaky. The Salty pancakes was topped with tomatoes, cheddar cheese, and Canadian bacon. While the French toast was sweet and heavy as it was topped with homemade strawberry jam and cream cheese. The total meal cost only 18 euros.
The Drop was a wonderful coffee shop and if I was ever in Sparta, Greece, I would definitely come back for breakfast and dinner.
