Bougatsa Iordanis in Chania, Crete, Greece
During our trip to Chania in Crete, Greece, we enjoyed lunch at the historic Bougatsa Iordanis pie shop, a renowned establishment with deep roots dating back to the beginning of the last century. Located in the city center, just a 10-minute walk from the Old Venetian Port of Chania, Bougatsa Iordanis specializes in Bougatsas. These traditional Greek pies are known for their sweet cream or savory cheese fillings. The Greek pies are encased in a crisp, golden brown phyllo pastry. The variant with the cheese filling is also known as Tiropita.
Upon our arrival, we were quickly seated and presented with a menu in both Greek and English. Bougatsa Iordanis offered us the choice to buy Bougasta by weight, either by the kilo or in 150-gram portions, available in either a traditional or cream style. The menu also included a selection of beverages like coffee, tea, and espresso. After spending a few minutes perusing the menu, the waitress returned to take our order. We opted for the traditional version, filled with goat cheese and sprinkled with sugar, and the cream version, a creamy custard filling dusted with powdered sugar and cinnamon.
The Greek pies were incredibly tasty! We enjoyed them so much that we decided to order two additional creamy versions. Discovering this place was a delightful surprise, as it offered both delicious and affordable options.
